Running in hot weather is pleasant but not easy. You will need gear that keeps you cool, dry, and protected from the sun. Here’s some advice for your summer running setup. You will need:
Clothing
• Moisture-wicking T-Shirt or vest – Look for lightweight, breathable fabrics like polyester or mesh.
• Running shorts – 2-in-1 shorts with built-in lining or split shorts for extra airflow.
• Moisture-wicking socks – It is best to avoid cotton to ensure that you don’t get blisters. Try synthetic blends or merino wool instead.
Accessories
• Sun Hat – A lightweight, breathable cap helps if it has sun protection and sweat control.
• Sunglasses – UV-blocking, anti-slip sports sunglasses to protect your eyes.
• Sweat-wicking headband – Keeps sweat from dripping into your eyes.
Shoes
• Breathable running shoes – Look for mesh uppers to maximize ventilation.
Hydration & Safety
• Handheld water bottle or hydration vest – Essential for longer runs.
• Electrolytes – Tablets, powders, or sports drinks to replace lost minerals after your run.
• Sunscreen – Sweat-resistant SPF 30+ to protect your skin.
Please be aware that it can be dangerous to run in high temperatures, due to the risk of dehydration. Anything up to 95°F (35°C) is safe for most people. Therefore, if you are new to running try to run for shorter distances if you are not used to running in the heat.
Also, pay attention to any personal signs of dizziness or shortness of breath.
Happy and safe running!
