In France different types of cakes are generally referred to as pastries and are usually sold in the local patisserie or boulangerie. Patisseries specialise in perhaps sweet, delicate pastries and boulangeries are classed as the local bakery; this is where you will find bread which plays an integral part in the French culture.
Boulangerie Lourmel is one of the finest that you will find locally in Paris. They have a range of delicious delights such as madeleines and macarons; along with the usual day to day favourites such as croissants, pain au raisin, pain au chocolat and brioche which are often eaten at breakfast.

Boulangeries can be found on almost every corner in Paris, so you will have no problem in finding one. And the prices can vary depending on the area that you are in. For example local boulangeries are much cheaper in comparison to chains or franchises that you might find in shopping malls or on the high street.

One surprising find is that McDonald’s has it’s own McCafe which has a delicious selection of cakes, pastries, biscuits and macarons. Not forgetting the iconic croissant.

You will also find a large selection at your local supermarket, such as Carrefour. Be sure to go early as supermarkets tend to sell out quite quickly. At times by 2pm most shelves are already clear as the fresh croissants and pastries are sold out.

Evidently you will surely find the traditional baguette in almost all boulangeries plus other variations of breads. Slices of a baguette or small bread rolls are often served for free in restaurants as a starter before your meal, whether it be breakfast, lunch or dinner the French will always have a little bread on the side.

So whether you are looking for something simple or decadently indulgent, you will definitely find it in a boulangerie. If you love pastries, then Paris, France is the place to be! Just be careful not to over indulge
