Food and drink in Madrid is a big part of the culture. If you are adventurous then you will find it great trying all the different delicacies.

The cafe Opera has a unique atmosphere where you go to eat and listen to live opera singers.

El Supermercado San Miguel (San Miguel supermarket) is fabulously colourful and has some fresh tantalising food on sale. There is a range of fresh fruit for sale, but be sure not to touch the display.

There is also a choice of natural juices and smoothies to choose from.

There are lots of naughty treats too.

The traditional Paella dish is always readily available in Madrid and of course in El Supermercado San Miguel.

Perhaps you may get a bit home sick and you may want a chick kebab with rice and a lovely salad; then you will also find this in Madrid.

Or perhaps you are feeling very brave, then you can buy some octopus from the local shop and try cooking it in your apartment if you have rented one. Otherwise you can get it cooked for you at a local restaurant. Seafood is a Spanish speciality, so you will easily find squid, prawns, octopus and muscles in the nearby restaurants.
